Dabble.

Sometimes we capture the world through a dusty lens, hoping to create a small reminder of what it was to be alive at the moment. I find photographs rarely do justice to the greatest moments of our lives. The photo does not capture the way the breeze felt across your bare legs, or how the bowl of chicken noodle soup sounded as it splattered across the kitchen floor. And yet I love to take photographs. Photographs of friends, trinkets, statues, scenery, whatever. It's something I've sadly let go in the bustle of my life. I'd like to begin again.

Whimsical whispers sent forth from quivering lips. Reciting words like they're a lifeline, dancing only in the dark or behind closed doors. You are a miracle in my mind, enticing delicate etchings into solid forms. Carving statues from concepts and constructs. Where are you from to begin with. Do you know the mother of men that I have come to know? We met on the day I was born, fresh into this world. She kissed my forehead, told me everything is ok. Said the pretty little things of my mind will amount to more than we'd ever known. She is in the fluid voice of the driven musician, traveling on notes to the ears of mankind. She is the sunset across the mountains, throwing spectrums across the sky. She is the strength all men seek in moments of trouble, grasping for further endurance. She is the beauty of every child, she blesses us like prisms touching lips of the forbidden. The crystals refract the light and reveal. her existence.
Just look. You will find her.

We Are Kidding Ourselves

We are kidding ourselves

I sit
to write
the words of
my life
I wonder how
many before,
despite shattering
screams,
where never
truly
heard

what words
we construe
I pace
I plant the seeds
of fools ideas
tend the gardens of
my mind
and converse with
a bundle;
infinite little
pieces
of me

Are you in love. Have you ever been in love. What is love, anyway? Some four-letter-word uttered under the cover of blankets and sheets, on the tops of mountains, in front of the sink in the kitchen, knives watching like jealous sharpened heads. Are we capable of forgetting ourselves enough. to love. To clasp the hand of forever and bound two souls, uneventfully. As though they were born to be together, even free. Some desperate human trait (flaw even?) drives us to seek it. find it. No matter the view, I find it's always love that I wished I knew. I seek the hand in the dark of night, like a strength that I couldn't have found inside myself. We seek it as though it might complete us. The wise will say: Be complete, and give yourself in love. But what if 'and' was traded for 'then'. What might we discover if we found ourselves complete, and Then discovered that ugly little curse of love. (okay maybe it's not ugly. or a curse.) What if.....

A Book I'd Like to Share

Excerpts I loved from
Everything is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer:

"4:525 The dream that we are our fathers. I walked to the Brod, without knowing why, and looked into my reflection in the water. I couldn't look away. What was the image that pulled me in after it? What was it that I loved? And then I recognized it. So simple. In the water I saw my father's face, and that face saw the face of its father, and so on, and so on, reflecting backward to the beginning of time, to the face of God, in whose image we were created. We burned with love for ourselves, all of us, starters of the fire we suffered- our love was affliction for which only our love was the cure..."

"Brod's life was a slow realization that the world was not for her, and that for whatever reason, she would never be happy and honest at the same time. She felt as if she were brimming, always producing and hoarding more love inside her. But there was no release. Table, ivory elephant charm, rainbow, onion, hairdo, mollusk, Shabbos, violence, cuticle, melodrama, ditch, honey, doily... None of it moved her. She addressed her world honestly, searching for something deserving of the volumes of love she knew she had within her, but to each she would have to say, I don't love you. Bark-brown fence post: I don't love you. Poem too long: I don't love you. Lunch in a bowl: I don't love you. Physics, the idea of you, the laws of you: I don't love you. Nothing felt like anything more than what it actually was. Everything was just a thing, mired completely in its thingness.
If we were to open to a random page in her journal- which she must have kept with her at all times, not fearing that it would be lost, or discovered and read, but that she would one day stumble upon that thing which was finally worth writing about and remembering, only to find that she had no place to write it- we would find some rendering of the following sentiment: I am not in love.
So she had to satisfy herself with the idea of love- loving the loving of things whose existence she didn't care at all about. Love itself became the object of her love. She loved herself in love, she loved loving love, as love loves loving, and was able, in that way, to reconcile herself with a world that fell so short of what she would have hoped for. It was not the world that was the great and saving lie, but her willingness to make it beautiful and fair, to live a once-removed life, in a world once-removed from the one in which everyone else seemed to exist.
The boys, young men, men, and elderly of the shtetl would sit vigil outside her window at all hours of the day and night, asking of they could assist her with her studies (with which she needed no help, of course, with which they couldn't possibly help her even if she let them try), or in the garden (which grew as if charmed, which bloomed red tulips and roses, orange and restless impatiens), or if perhaps Brod would like to go for a stroll tot he river (to which she was perfectly able to stroll on her own, thank you). She never said no and ever said yes, but pulled, slackened, pulled her strings of control."

"But it wasn't the same recognition as the previous morning, when he saw his face in the Dial's glass eyes. He wasn't becoming older as part of some natural process, but being made old as a victim of his love, which was itself only one day old. He was a boy still, but no longer a boy. A man, but not yet a man. He was caught somewhere between his mother's last kiss and the first kiss he would give his child, between the war that was and would be."

"And so it was when anyone tried to speak: their minds would become tangled in remembrance. Words became floods of ideas with no beginning or end, and would drown the speaker before he could reach the life raft of the point he was trying to make. It was impossible to remember what one meant, what, after all of the words, was intended."

"... The images of his infinite pasts and infinite futures washed over him as he waited, paralyzed, in the present. He, Safran, marked the division between what was and what would be."

Reading a great novel is like opening up a world in which our thoughts are mirrored through the creation of another. Realities are materialized through the construction of stories. (Stories we tell ourselves or tell to others. Stories that explain who we are, where we are from, and where we are going.) Some will strike us as odd, others we will feel as though we have written the words ourselves. Foer's novel, revealing the feelings of raw reality, is one I find myself in. As foolish as it is, I often wonder if the kinds of thoughts developed are not the product of some kind of link between souls who know and live similar stories. The materialization of minds that behold the same truths. And in reading a novel such as this, I find that I am truly inspired.

Where is the Poet

http://thebjoernsons.deviantart.com/art/fly-away-77743387

i struggle to yield the feeling that we are clenching fists 'round clusters of sand. secretly, or not so Secretly, pleading for the consistency of rock. constantly wearing away, wearing down, wearing thin. you harness thin like it's the latest style. but the latest truth is that you're swimming in lakes of crimson vermouth. grasping for the stronghold, steadying upon perches in the flutter. the butterfly flew above the lake, mocking your inability to escape. and again we find the faulty mind fail to form lines of truth. sentences string together like christmas cranberries. those moments faded now, we found nothing but grains in our dirty hands.

petals of flowers
softly drift from the tree
blush pink teardrops
flutter down
like snow
a million dying dreams
change shades in the grass
frozen dew,
the wave of quiet hands
soon soft pink petals
become golden crisp brown
and blow away

i reach out
to grasp
the remains

Some kind of Something

{Perhaps
We are fools
for Believing
In Love.}

It took
very few
Moments
For you
to convince
me.
I'd sworn off.
Laughed at
a thousand
little kisses.
Kisses like
wings of
butterflies
across
flushed cheeks.
Your lips
lusciously
parted.
We met
Half Way.

To Nature
by:Samuel Taylor Coleridge

It may indeed be phantasy, when I
Essay to draw from all created things
Deep, heartfelt, inward joy that closely clings ;
And trace in leaves and flowers that round me lie
Lessons of love and earnest piety.
So let it be ; and if the wide world rings
In mock of this belief, it brings
Nor fear, nor grief, nor vain perplexity.
So will I build my altar in the fields,
And the blue sky my fretted dome shall be,
And the sweet fragrance that the wild flower yields
Shall be the incense I will yield to Thee,
Thee only God ! and thou shalt not despise
Even me, the priest of this poor sacrifice.

Birds

http://katibear.deviantart.com/art/Something-Rare-64018840

The birds flew together
A living mass
Forming and reforming
The little bird darted
Into the safety of
The flock.

As I gazed beyond the asphalt that steadily whizzed past turning wheels, I recognized the freedom of the birds.

We live our lives waiting for the day when we will be free.
Sometimes we don't realize; we always had wings.

A Little of This. A Little of That.

Trudging through the rain, she noticed the flicker of distant streetlights. Funny, she hadn't noticed them ever doing that before. Her shadow, elongated in front of her, raced ahead as if it were a guide in the flickering light. Drops pelted her hood and the sound reverberated throughout her body. It somehow calmed her racing heart. Her hands were stuffed into too-small pockets. In the right, she roughly clutched a pendant on simple white ribbon. She knew the imprint of a heart would be left upon her flesh, as though the lingering memory had seared itself into her. It seemed odd to her to hold the symbol in the palm of her hand. She slowly allowed herself to review the last few months.
