I miss those days of freckles
and fresh summer skin.
We walked the roads of a world
we thought we knew,
and laughed at who we were.
I miss the days of star-gazing,
laying below a vast expanse
we still rarely comprehend.
I am the girl who spoke to you
in front of the convenience store.
I was the one who reminded you
of who you are
and who we were.
I struggle to make it connect,
and often forget;
it would be dull
if these things were easy.
I hope to find us settled under the same stars and sky that have always been above us. I hope we watch the same moon and think the same thing some nights. I hope we'll never forget what it was to be free and adventurous. I hope we live like this and like that forever.
